Description Thomas Ashe was a leading figure of the Irish Rebellion. In 1917 he was imprisoned by British authorities for seditious speech. Sentenced to two years hard labour, he protested any criminal sentence and responded by going on hunger strike at Mountjoy Prison. Overly rough force feeding by the British authorities led to his death 5 days later. In 1916 while imprisoned for his participation in the Easter Rising, Ashe wrote the song, 'Let Me Carry Your Cross.'
Singer Sam Burton rises to the occasion with a soul-baring rendition of this melancholic work.
